One of my all time favourites: Café Kaffekoppen

I love simplicity & Kaffekoppen literally means ‘The Coffee Cup’ in Swedish, so where better to for fika in Stockholm than this place?

Right… so let’s be clear… Gamla Stan (The Old Town) is a tourist magnet & many places to hike up their prices because of this.  So if you are on an absolute shoestring budget and you find yourself in Gamla Stan, maybe head to Cosy Corner Café or hunt for somewhere advertising coffee or lunch deals.

However, if you are looking for a good value café in the centre of Gamla Stan, overlooking one of the main squares, then Kaffekoppen is for you…

Food: The food is really good – I particularly recommend their pies (I had Broccoli & Blue Cheese), served with a well-presented & fresh side salad.

Coffee: Their filter coffee (order brygg cafe) prices are fairly standard for Stockholm (29 SEK at the time of writing) but if you have the filter coffee , it also includes a free refill = good value!

Tourist tip: In Sweden, and particularly Gamla Stan, it is often cheaper to order a standard Swedish coffee than a latté or anything you might order in your generic coffee chain around the world (the Swedes make filter coffee well – I would choose Swedish filter coffee over a latté, cappuccino etc.)

Kanelbulle: 30 SEK for a sizable & good Swedish Kanelbulle (Cinnamon bun) = Definitely good value.

And if the prices don’t impress you, the surroundings will… either sit outside on the square soaking overlooking the historic Old Town or head through the café, downstairs to truly experience KaffeKoppen in all its glory: spiral staircase, candles & a historical cellar vault from the 1600s.

With my free coffee refill(!) I could (and do) sit in here for hours…money well spent if you ask me!

Location: Stortorget 20, 111 29 Stockholm
Nearest Tube: Gamla Stan (Red, Blue and Green Lines)

And if you're planning on visiting Stockholm any time soon, Booking.com has some great deals on hotels in and around the city. Highly recommended!
