Bageriet Bulleboden

This place is no secret – they are know to serve fantastic kanelbullar (cinnamon buns – if you can get there before they sell out) & delicious buttery kardemummabulle (cardamom buns). We hadn’t been for lunch before so thought we’d give it a go.

My open sandwich was amazing – their bread is freshly baked. You can either choose your bread roll (including seeded & fruity varieties) & your choice of filling, or have an open sandwich, served a thick slice of their fresh dagens bröd (daily bread).

Two lunches – a soup & my sandwich came to 175 Swedish Kronor (around £17/$27 on today’s exchange rates) so it seems the prices are fairly standard…until they tell you that the price includes additional bread, coffee or tea (loose leaf), water & vete skorpa (literally translated as ‘wheat crusts’ – imagine Swedish biscotti – kanelbullar sliced & cooked again in the oven until it becomes crispy). Quite a few Swedish cafes definitely used to do this but with new ones popping up everywhere, it seems that included coffee & bread is becoming less & less common – I like it – free anything – it makes me feel like I’m getting a bargain!

With all this included in the price, this cafe’s lunch options are very good value (& tasty too – remembering it’s only good value if the price is right & the food is good).

We went for lunch on a weekday & had no problem finding a table – throughout our time there, it was clear that many people phoned ahead with their bread & kanelbullar takeaway orders.
